"Daniel Gnanasothy Veerasingam: A Role Model For His Students" - T David Nidharshan
It's very rare that we come across a person who
has a strong methodology towards a sustainable approach in life.
Veerasingam sir, born in Thondamanaru, Jaffna
and had his early education at Hartley College and completed his B.Sc. degree at
the University of Ceylon. Around 1979/ 1980 first I met Veerasingam sir at
Kalmunai Wesley, where he was a chemistry teacher for cluster classes at
Kalmunai Wesley and Zahira colleges. His practical way of teaching highly
appreciated by me and many other students.
He has given more attention to practical studies
and English in his classes. He always encouraged students to learn English and
says that English is a window to see the world.
His commitment towards the church and social
activities were many, and I can point out certain activities, especially his
service as a General secretary to Kalmunai YMCA and a preacher at Methodist
church. This was the golden era in the history of Kalmunai YMCA. Many projects
were implemented towards life empowerment. And his preaching at church also
with high tech explanations.
His dedication and perfection identified himself
as a man of helping hand specially at Sammanthurai central college , where he
spent many years of service. So many patients were taken by him to Batticaloa
General hospital and treated by his brother, Dr Philip Veerasingam. Still the
valuable service of Veerasingam sir is remembered by the Sammanthurai people.
When he was a director of Puhalidam Methodist
church his systemic approach towards differently abeled children was highly
appreciated by SLCCC. And his dedicated contribution in preparing students for
London A/L at Eastern international college was highly commended by the
management.
He threw himself with characteristic enthusiasm
and energy into what was undoubtedly his life's most rewarding work.
When he left this world in 2020, it's a great
loss for his wife Malar Accah and his son Breman.
"A soul mixed with soil,
Fervant, Heroic and good,
A helper and friend of mankind."
